I’m a bit like Tron.
I fight for the user.

It’s not about me.

Well, this site is, but everything else is about the user, the customer, the employee, the client, the manager, the family member.

The more, and earlier you trust and involve others in evolving the products and processes that impact them the more support you’ll have from them in return, and the better the result will be.

Resistance vs Involvement

This is about me.

My passion for Experience and Service Design comes from a background in the arts combined with a career leading teams and producing music, and interactive media for the web, mobile, games, and emerging technologies.

I’m currently CXO (Chief Experience Officer) and Director of UX at Precocity, where my teams craft and test creative solutions for clients throughout the world. I co-founded the Dallas chapter of the Service Design Network, currently with over 4,000 members worldwide. I also produce and host our YouTube channel at youtube.com/sdndallas.

I hold three bachelor’s degrees in Singing, Music Theory & Composition, and Acting from The College of Idaho, and a master’s degree from Indiana University in Interactive Media Design.

I’ve lived around the USA in eight states and almost three years in the Philippines where I learned to speak Ilonggo, Cebuano, and Tagalog, and how to love and be loved.

When I’m not doing all of the above, I love streaming movies and shows with my family, restoring old cars, training in Kung Fu, and hanging out with my four adorable kids and lovely, talented wife.

Creativity is just connecting things…[Creative people] have had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people…The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have.

What I’m about

Leadership

Every job I’ve had has been or evolved into a leadership role. Whether it’s building teams for startups, or evolving existing teams, businesses trust me to help them build human-centric creative groups.

Speaking

I enjoy harnessing my passion and experience for experience design and people into public speaking and teaching. I love sharing and giving bck. My talks and classes inspire, motivate, and educate.

Writing

I relish reading, interviewing, and telling stories. Where data can change minds, stories can change hearts. It’s the most challenging of efforts, but I’m writing a sci-fi novel and trying to blog more.

There is no work/life balance. It’s all life.

  • Be kind

  • Be bold, but not overbearing

  • Be radically candid

  • Have strong opinions, loosely held

  • Admit when you’re wrong

  • Apologize when necessary

  • Be more merciful than just when you can

  • Take care of your mental, spiritual, emotional health

  • Be the person your mom tells everyone you are

  • Sing

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

Specialization is for insects.
